“An almost hidden jewel”

Fig is located on the periphery of Biltmore Village in a small commercial development that a lot of people don't know about. Too bad. Fig is a great little place that serves consistently very good food and has for several years.

One of the biggest surprises is the Macaroni and Cheese at lunch. This is simply the best mac n' cheese I have ever had, bar none. It comes in a small individual ramekin with the top dusted with bread crumbs and a luscious combination of cheese positively enveloping the perfectly cooked pasta. Served with a simple green salad it is a very reasonably priced lunch dish and never disappoints. The Reuben is also very good if you are there at lunch and it is on the menu.

This is not to say that Fig doesn't have more ambitious creations on its menu. It has plenty. Lunch and dinner both have surprisingly good selections of fare for such an intimate room. In good weather they have outside eating in the courtyard of the building where they are dog friendly. . .an increasingly common but important amenity in a town like Asheville where almost everyone seems to have a dog.

If your dining plans involve the area around Biltmore Village and you have already sampled Rezaz and Corner Kitchen, both of which are also terrific, do not miss Fig.
